Book Launch, “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told”

It was a special day in Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when Michigan Avenue Magazine celebrated their October issue with cover stars, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman. The celebration was two-fold, it was not only their first time on the cover of the magazine, but it was also the launch of their book “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.” Market President and Group Publisher, Dan Uslan, Editor-in-Chief J.P. Anderson, hosted the red carpet event for the dynamic duo at Prime and Provisions, Chicago, before their performance, at the Chicago Theater. The evening entailed a media session, a toast to the magazine’s cover, book and magazine cover signing and a party sponsored by Rabbit Hole Distillery, Peroni, McLaren Chicago and Studio 41. Chicago is their second stop of a five-city book tour.

Mullally, known for her character Karen Walker, on “Will and Grace,” and Offerman, known for his character Ron Swanson on “Parks and Recreation,” have led a successful 20 year Hollywood marriage/relationship and have now launched an amusing, or should I say hilarious book about their crazy journey. The nine-chapter book includes topics ranging from their professional lives, all the way to sex, leaving nothing to the imagination. As quoted from the introduction in the book, “It’s an oral history presented to you in an organized, yet playful fashion dotted here and there with photography and cute drawings!” There are individual essays that are a total hoot, and the book design (done by Megan herself) is fantastic. However, for those who like to listen instead of reading, it is in audio form as well.

When asked how they wrote the book, the couple explained that they would lay in bed at night with a recorder and just pick a topic and start a conversation. There was nothing preplanned except the number of chapters. Megan would choose the topic, and when they got in bed, the conversation would begin.

It is this kind of spontaneity that is not only the building blocks of an honest, yet comedic book but of a loving, respectful and beautiful marriage. You could feel their love for each other on the carpet. Their energy is undeniable. They are kind, unpretentious and generous with their time. They are a Hollywood love story but not a “Hollywood” couple.
