“Killers of the Flower Moon” finally premiered on Saturday evening at the Cannes Film Festival in France to an astounding 9-minute standing ovation. Martin Scorsese spoke to the audience and thanked the Osage Nation for their support in making the film.
Currently, the film has a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes of 54 reviews, and this critic can’t wait to add hers! I’ll have to stand by alongside everyone else in the world for the October 6 opening in theaters—as customary; I’ll be invited to review along with other critics a few weeks earlier. I know the film will be shown in Oklahoma to the Osage Nation in a private screening on July 6.
The film centers on the 1920s Osage Indian Nation Regin of Terror and is based on the excellent book by David Grann, “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.” Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro star alongside Lily Gladstone.
I’ve been following the book and the film’s journey since 2018. Here’s an overview of that journey in an article I wrote for RogerEbert.com that included interviews with former Osage Nation Chief Jim Gray and Osage News journalist Shannon Shaw Duty https://bit.ly/EbertKillersoftheFlowerMoon.
The most exciting news from Cannes is that the reviews are tremendous for the movie, calling it a masterpiece with Oscar-worthy performances. Be sure to check back regarding my review at the end of September or early October.
