“Maiden” is the true documentary story of Tracy Edwards, a skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World in 1989. Tracy’s dream was met with male opposition, for starters they thought she would never finish the race, they even made bets on her failure. Potential sponsors rejected her, fearing her crew would die at sea and generate bad publicity. Refusing to give up, Tracy bought a second-hand boat via funds through mortgaging her home.
Alex Holmes is the director of this inspirational tale of adventure on the high seas and deliberate prejudice on dry land. Tracy and her crew went on to shock the sporting world and prove that women are very much the equals of men.
