“The Morning Show” Season 3 stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup and John Hamm. The Apple TV + series premiered on November 1, 2019, it’s hard to believe it’s been three years since the opening. I have to say that I’ve enjoyed the first two seasons, yet this one is my favorite.
Billy Crudup’s character, the TV network president Cory Ellison, is given center stage. News reporters Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon take a back seat. We see the personal interactions and culture behind a Network Broadcast Morning news program, and in Season 3, they are in significant debt.
I loved the opening scene, a tribute to the movie “Saturday Night Fever,” as “Staying Alive” blasts as Billy Crudup arrives at the office. The song serves as a sign that Crudup desperately needs to keep the UBA+ network ‘alive’ by garnering the much-needed funds. He looks to a tech billionaire, Paul Marks, played by Jon Hamm, to save his sinking ship. Just as Jeff Bezos is flirting with space travel, Marks believes fervently in its opportunities. In a comical yet frightening space flight, we view Bradley Jackson’s (Reese Witherspoon) last-minute flight into space with Hamm.
The romantic relationship between Marks and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) is also fun to view. Their chemistry is spot-on; both are interesting and entertaining as the script plays into the strengths of a regarded soap tone. The seasoned duo is one of the best series matches I’ve seen.
The bottom line? I’m in, 3 and a half stars out of 4. The Morning Show’s award-winning cast shines in season three as does the intriguing storyline. At this point, only five Episodes have aired, the remaining five air weekly.
